At Patterson Heating & Air Conditioning, we get the chance to meet homeowners in Charlotte during our home visits each and every day. Our technicians have been asked almost every question in the book when it comes to HVAC, so most of the time there isn’t an issue they can’t solve. One of the questions we see pop up a lot is “Why does my air conditioner not feel like it’s blowing cool air?” Well, there a number of reasons why this could happen; some of them simple, and some of them are more complex. We all know that Sophie enjoys a nice cool home, so here are her suggestions for when your family isn’t feeling comfortable during these hotter months:
Check Your Thermostat
Make sure that you have set your thermostat properly. We generally recommend to set it on Auto, because it will only circulate air during the cooling cycle. If you have your thermostat set to On, then the fan will always circulate air whether it’s cooled or not.
Check Your Compressor
Your compressor is what pumps refrigerant through your system, and ultimately, helps cool the air in your home. If you’re compressor isn’t working or has lost power, it could explain why your home isn’t cooling off.
Check Your Airflow
If air can’t flow properly to the air conditioner, then it won’t have the chance to get cooled off. Most of the time, this can be caused simply by a dirty air filter. Changing your filters every month is one of the best ways to ensure better air quality in your home, and it will ensure you don’t starve air conditioning unit.
Refrigerant Levels Are Low
Refrigerant is the fluid used to cool and dehumidify the air in your home. If your AC unit doesn’t have enough refrigerant, then consider giving us a call to check for leaks and ensure the system is operating at the correct refrigerant level.
Of course, there are other potential causes as to why your air conditioner isn’t cooling off, but these are just some preliminary things you can check. If everything on this list checks out and you still aren’t getting cool air, then feel free to give Patterson Heating & Air Conditioning a call to diagnose your system!
